Kansas City, Kansas Police Department | South Patrol Station
The City of Kansas City, Kansas wanted a new police station that would provide a sense of significance and safety to the community. A programming effort in early 2014 confirmed the need for a new patrol station, tactics facility, and administrative headquarters. The original budget was cut to less than a third of the original needs assessment. Despite this cut, we worked to maximize the facility to exceed expectations. Hoefer Wysocki was able to meet the department’s greatest need and one of its biggest wish list items of flexible spaces that could be used by both the community and police.
Due to response times, safety concerns and accessibility, the location for this new police station was non-negotiable. Due to a contaminated site more than 300,000 cubic yards of new soil was laid, consuming almost a third of the overall budget. We worked closely with our design-build partners to come up with cost-saving solutions through variable façade materials, alternative product selection and site location studies.
Hoefer Wysocki met the client’s budget while providing to the high-level of design.
